Kananaskis Country is the Alberta Rockies best kept
secret. To the southwest of Banff National Park, 'K
Country' as it is known, is an unspoiled paradise.
Full of picture perfect mountain scenery, wildlife
and flora, Kananaskis Country can be visited at any
time of the year. There are excellent cross-country
skiing trails, which become excellent hiking trails
in the spring. Whether you camp, stay in a lodge or
in a luxury hotel, all the facilities in 'K Country'
are of an excellent standard.
Kananaskis Country covers more than 1,544 square
miles. The area, located west of Calgary, includes
Bow Valley, Bragg Creek and Peter Lougheed Provincial
Parks. Here you will also find the small town of Kananaskis.
This
area provides endless opportunities for recreational
activities. Camping, horseback riding, hiking, mountain
biking, fishing, golfing, rock climbing, white-water
rafting and kayaking and golf can all be enjoyed here.
The area boasts two 18-hole golf courses and an abundance
of wildlife. Visitors may spot bear, bighorn sheep,
deer, elk, lynx, moose or mountain goats. It's also
a great place for bird watching and wildlife viewing
- bring your camera!
